Estate Maintenance
The unglamorous, continuous work that decides what an estate is worth in ten years.
Estate Maintenance
An estate does not decline dramatically. It declines quietly, one skipped operation at a time, and by the time it is obvious the recovery costs more than the neglect ever saved.
Drains silt up. Shade closes over until the crop underneath stops setting. A road washes out and the far blocks stop being visited. Vines lose their standards. None of it looks urgent in any single month, which is exactly why it happens on properties whose owners live elsewhere.
Our maintenance contracts run annually against a written schedule of operations, timed to the crop calendar for that estate. Someone is on the property regularly, the work is recorded, and the owner receives a monthly report with photographs, labour engaged and expenditure against budget.
For estates that have already slipped, we start with a rehabilitation programme — canopy correction, drain clearing, stumping where the crop is exhausted and a nutrition plan — usually over two to three years, before moving onto a standard annual contract.
